The Delegate Commission of the Assembly of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM) has accepted the proposal of the Board of Directors to suspend competitions due to the coronavirus pandemic and has determined that the Barca and the Super Amara Bera Bera are proclaimed champions of the Sacyr ASOBAL League and the Iberdrola Warrior League, respectively.
The decisions, which affect the final classifications, the places of access to continental competitions and promotions, have been made with the understanding of “the seriousness of the health emergency that is experienced in a general way throughout the planet”.
Liga Iberdrola: the Bera Bera, hexacampeón
Thus, taking into account the classification after the last day played, the Super Amara Bera Bera revalidates the title – sixth in its history – and a ticket for the EHF European League is secured, just like Elche Handball as second place. Liberbank Gijón and Mecalia Atlético Guardés, third and fourth classified, will go to the EHF European Cup. The criteria for the allocation of places for the continental competition dispute has been “the classification at the end of the first round”.
In order to determine the team promoted in each group of the Women’s Silver Honor Division, given the difference in matches played by each team, a coefficient of points has been established that grants Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen from Group A, the Atlantic, the highest category Pereda from Group B, Morvedre Handball from Group C, and Adesal Córdoba from Group D.
Liga Asobal: Barça extends its reign
For his part, Barça, undefeated leader, adds its tenth consecutive Sacyr ASOBAL League and will play the Champions League, while Handball Benidorm, as runner-up of the King’s Cup, ABANCA Ademar León and Bidasoa Irún, second and third classified in the first round, will play the EHF European League.
In addition, the 2020-21 season will feature 18 teams in the highest category: the current 16 plus Cisne Colegio Los Sauces and Blasgón and Bodegas Ceres Villa de Aranda, first and second classified in the Men’s Silver Honor Division.
Meanwhile, the Silver category will consist of 20 teams, with the six teams rising from First National: Embutidos Lalinense from Group A, UBU San Pablo from Group B, Trapagan from Group C, Sant Martí-Adrianenc from Group D, Playasol Eivissa from Group E, iKasa Madrid from Group F. The criterion for their choice has been the coefficient of points based on the matches they have played.
In addition, the RFEBM reported that it already works in “the different stages of competition” for the 2020-21 season, which will be presented to the Ordinary General Assembly for approval. The Spanish Club Championships, the Promotion Phases and the Beach Handball Circuit ‘Arena Handball Tour 2020’ have also been canceled.
