The commission of territorial presidents, meeting this Wednesday under the presidency of Luis Rubiales, agreed to transfer to the Board of Directors of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and its delegated commission the proposal to resolution of the First Iberdrola, giving Barcelona as champion for being currently the first classified and granting the direct ascent to Eibar and Santa Teresa.
The proposal to end the 2019/20 season would leave no effect the drops, so the Espanyol and Valencia would continue in the top flight, and would recognize the merits of Barcelona, an outstanding leader with 9 points more than Atlético de Madrid after 22 of the 30 days originally planned have been played.
In the absence of its ratification by the Board of Directors and by the Delegated Commission, the promotion of promotion from First National to the Iberdrola Challenge (Second Division) would be played behind closed doors, as provided in the regulations, but in an express format and with headquarters unique, while the semifinals and the Queen’s Cup final would be played in the 2020/21 season.
For the next course, the RFEF will also deal “as far as possible and whenever due to sanitary and calendar reasons it is possible” avoid making subgroups, so the First Iberdrola would maintain a only group, with 18 teams instead of 16.
