The former Secretary General of Sport of the Generalitat Josep Lluís Vilaseca has died at age 90, sources from the Generalitat of Catalonia have reported.
Vilaseca was lawyer and politician, awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat in 2002, the UEFA Order of Merit in 2007 and the Gold Medal of the city of Barcelona for sporting merit in 2014.
In his professional career he was manager of FC Barcelona from 1969 to 1977 and president of the Comissió Segle XXI, he promoted the Sports Law of Catalonia, chaired the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee.
It was also member of the Spanish Olympic Committee, president of the insurance company Agrupació Mútua and member of the jury of the Príncipe de Asturias Foundation awards.
Gerard Figueras, the General Secretary for Sport and Physical Activity of Catalonia, has been one of the figures who has joined in the public condolences for the news of the death, among which those of FC Barcelona stand out. “Sad for the death of Mr. Josep Lluís Vilaseca.
